Before these injections became available, having type one diabetes was essentially a death sentence. Nothing one can do would have been enough to stop it from inevitably taking over and destroying one’s body. One can even fall into a coma if one gets into a glycemic shock as a result of diabetes. Gangrene and subsequent amputation was once a fact of life for some diabetics that is now not at all necessary thanks to insulin injections and other treatments.
