The shingles virus is usually present in the skin in an area known as a dermatome. It is served by a certain nerve group. The rash will spread through this particular group of nerves but will not spraed from one through another. Generally the antiviral medication prescribed by your physician will be Aciclovir. This medication is taken as many as five times a day. Do not stop taking the antiviral drugs until your physician instructs you to or it will not work as well.
Other than antiviral drugs, Shingles pain can relieved by painkillers. Some pain can last well after the condition is gone. The pain can last as long as six months.
