The right contact lens cleaning solution

I just got Boston EO RGP lens today. I've been wearing soft contact lenses for a few years but decided to make the switch today. My question is - can I use regular multipurpose soft contact lens cleaning solution with my RGP lens? My co-worker uses RGP lens and uses "generic brand soft lens solution" for all cleaning and storing of his RGP contact lens. He says that he has been doing it for years and never had any problem! Is it true?
