Valves keep blood flowing

November 30th, 2007 | by admin |

In a properly-functioning vein a series of valves keeps the blood flowing back to the heart. Each valve opens and closes in sequence to flow the blood in one direction only – back to the heart. When the vein valves fail to do their job, the blood pools and bulges the vein. This is called varicose veins.

Because most occurrences of varicose veins are not serious enough to require treatment from a doctor, there are several over the counter options for treatment at home. And even though the condition is not serious, it should not be ignored. One of the most common at home treatments is the use of support stockings.
