Anorexia is said to be a self induced eating disorder. The causes for anorexia can be physical, psychological as well as intentional. The physical causes of anorexia involve medical conditions like colitis, arthritis, cirrhosis of the liver and kidney failure. Other causes involve alcoholism, drug addiction as well as some side effects caused by certain medicine.

The psychological causes of anorexia include mental problems like stress, depression as well as anxiety. The intentional causes usually include a desire to become anorexic. It may be due to the blind following of a fad diet or a result of the thinking that anorexic look is cool.

These causes once detected can be treated with psychotherapy and medications.
