What are the health benefits for meditation?

I heard many doctors feel that the practice of meditation is good for a persons health. But the only thing I heard is that it relaxes the body so that the natural defences have a better opportunity to fend off viruses.

I have always felt that it allows an individual to find an ability to deal with stress in a better fashion. By being able to find your “center”, a place that allows you be calm in stressful situations you body is able to handle stressful situations in a better fashion. Stress is a huge contributor to peoples poor health condition in many areas.

Along with doing that there are many other benefits of meditation. It provides a inner peace to you which is good for your soul.
It provides good exercise for your heart and lungs. It gives your mind a serious break (everyone needs them!) At times your mind is processing a million different things at a time. You would get tired too!
