Constipation Woes
December 22nd, 2007 | by admin |Electromyography is one of the constipation remedies, in which a surface or needle electrode is placed in the external anal sphincter. The test provides useful information regarding changes in myoelectrical activity of the sphincter during squeezing and bearing down. Results help confirm a diagnosis of obstructive defecation or damaged anal sphincter.Simulated defecation test consists of placing a 50-mL water-filled balloon or a silicone-filled artificial stool (Fecom) in the rectum. The patient is given privacy and asked to expel the artificial stool. Difficulty in expelling it or an inability to do so is a characteristic finding in patients with obstructive defecation.
